It’s Been Quite a Ride Recently!
First of all, I had an AMAZING C2E2! Was swamped most of the show and met so many cool and enthusiastic people. Honestly, it was my best show ever, a huge boost I really needed. If I met you at the show and this is your first newsletter, WELCOME TO THE MOON CREW! I hope you enjoyed the show as much as I did and thank you for joining us! I hope to get Table X-23 again next year, how cool would that be?

Pushing Forward on Spectress & Sabanion #6
Topper and Wes continue to deliver magic for the next issue. Page 5 features Aneksi forcing The Blood Shade out of her friend, Cheska while Domira renders aid to the archaeology dean in the background. Below that, a disguised Sabanion considers the future of his presence on earth while Jerry teaches him chess.

And Now for Something Completely Different
The last 2 months have been fantastic in some ways but not the best in others. In mid-February, I had a Transient Ischemic Attack (or TIA, also known as a mini-stroke). A blood clot hit my brain, I couldn’t move my left hand and my speech was slurred. Losing control of your body is a harrowing experience. 4 days in the hospital to figure out what happened.

Kurt Zauer - Playing it cool, terrified on the inside.
No fun, but I used that time to plan out Ruxy Vampire Issue #4. That, I promise, will be fun. The Ruxy #3 script is currently in its 2nd draft. Work continues…
I’m good now. Just need a same day procedure to fix the problem and I (hopefully) won’t have to worry about this again. Looking forward to getting that done, needless to say.
Incidentally, here’s a review for Ruxy Vampire #2 on Geek Network (I’m a little gun shy when it comes to reviews… they haven’t always been good to me).
Just a quick note! Starting next month the Cagey Comics newsletter will be sent on the 2nd Monday of the month.

Media Absorption
What is There to Watch? Egad, Too Much!
Maul - Shadow Lord on Disney Plus - I restarted my subscription for this and I’m really enjoying it. Fantastic animation and and a great story that keeps moving forward. Great sound too, listen with headphones to get the full effect. Really good.
Invincible, S4 on Amazon Prime - Still killing it, still bringing classic comic book heroes and tropes together in visceral, surprising, and effectively emotional ways.
Deathstalker on AMC, Shudder - If you’re a fan of 80s nostalgic cheese, this is for you. Fun, ridiculous, and filled with practical (and squishy) effects and costumes. The original Deathstalker was one of many low budget sword-and-sorcery epics that tried to ride the success of Conan The Barbarian.
The Boys, S5 - Great opening episode. Looking forward to seeing how the story comes to its conclusion.
Kakegurui on Netfix - I am by no means an anime connoisseur, but if you’re looking for something different and bizarre this is for you. It’s about high school rich kids that are ranked based on their gambling ability. Check it out for the social commentary about wealth and status, stay for the crazy mugging and gambling insanity. Ruxy would approve.

Movies
Saw Ready or Not 2… was ok. The sister dynamic was good but overall didn’t bring much more beyond what you saw in the first movie.
Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is coming this weekend. This looks like it’s going to be on par with Evil Dead Rise and scare the shit out of me (hopefully it’s not stroke-inducing, eh? Nyuk!). Looking forward to it!
Pop Culture News & Links
The Southern Bastards comic book adaptation is moving forward. One of my favorite comics that inspired me to give it a shot myself.
Dark Horse Comics is going to do a Ravenloft series. I’m game!
The comic book Monstress is getting a series on Amazon. I have the first trade paperback, haven’t gotten thru it yet but the art is beautiful.
Kathleen Kennedy is out at Lucasfilm. Dave Filoni is moving in as chief creative officer. Star Wars media hasn’t been great on the big screen for some time. A good move, in my humble opinion.
Amazon Prime’s Spider-Noir show is going to be TV-14.
Lower Prices at CageyComics.com
I don’t push much for sales in my newsletters but just a quick FYI: I’ve lowered the per-issue prices on all my books on CageyComics.com. I know things are tight right now and comics aren’t high on the priority list.
In addition, I’m also offering a 15% discount on orders over $35 now through Memorial Day. Use the code MOONCREW at checkout. If there’s an issue you need or cover you’re missing or print you’d like, now is the time.
Cagey Comics T-shirts at TeePublic
I had a question about t-shirts at C2E2. I have a separate store at TeePublic for Cagey Comics swag. I just put a bunch of new designs up for Ruxy Vampire and Spectress & Sabanion. It’s customizable, really cool how the site allows you to pick different styles and colors. Click any of the pics to get to the site. They offer a first-time purchase discount there as well.
Thank You!
I couldn’t do this without you!
Stay sane, stay healthy, stay CAGEY,
Kurt
