Cagey Updates_9: Haunted by Endings, Weapons, Wednesdays, Voices, & Virgins!

Yup, stress levels are... well... you know. So let's talk about creepy and sexy stuff!

And That’s A Wrap on Ruxy!

Had a great time w/ the Ruxy Vampire Kickstarter and now the hardest part is over. A big, successful Kickstarter is FANTASTIC but WOW, that’s a lot of books to pack and ship. I’m still blown away that I’m sending my stories to Australia, Sweden, Finland, Ireland, Germany, and the Netherlands. Amazing!

Ok, you too, Canada!

Spectress & Sabanion 6 is HAUNTING ME!

I have sky high expectations for Spectress & Sabanion 6 and that’s why it’s been so hard to finish. It’s the end of the first story arc and I don’t want to mess it up. I remember the Red Letter Media guys on YouTube talking about Avengers: Endgame and they gave it the highest praise: They don’t fuck it up unlike a few other franchises out there (ahem The Last Jedi *cough*). I’ve painted myself into a complex situation and need to resolve it in a way that’s visceral, interesting, and exciting. I’m terribly self-critical and want to make this good. I will get you the best ending I can… just be patient w/ me.

… But That Doesn’t Mean I Don’t Have Something For You!

Here are Chris Ehnot’s inks for his Issue #6 cover. Enjoy.

Media Absorbtion Rates Remain Low…

Still working that script but I have gotten to a few tasty chucks of pop culture:

Movies: I wanted to catch Weapons before it left theaters. What a movie! The scares are far between but effective. The story structure is probably the best part… a little reminiscent of Pulp Fiction, believe it or not. Great acting and interesting characters and a bloody gonzo ending. Check it out when you can.

If you like a bit of old school, atmospheric spookiness that becomes genuinely terrifying, check out The Changeling starring the great George C Scott. That movie is genuinely scary. It’s old. It’s not a slasher/screamer and you might be bored if that’s your thing. But hell… watch it with the sound up. I watched it on Shudder.com. If you check it out, let me know what you think.

Streaming: I’m definitely singing the praises of Wednesday (on Netflix). It’s a blast. Better than the 1st season, especially as Morticia and Gomez have a little more to do and are fun to watch. More gruesome too, but… in a fun way?

Alien Earth was losing me in its first few episodes. It goes in directions you don’t expect that are interesting but not terribly engaging. That last episode brings all the alien chaos into focus and redeems the series. I’m looking forward to more squealing and drooling alien mayhem. I hope tonight’s episode maintains that forward movement and excitement.

Comics: My new fave is The Voice Said Kill from Image Comics. It’s a swampy, sweaty, and gritty crime drama.

  • Stuff to look forward to:

    • Evil Dead Burn (oh yes bring it!). Evil Dead Rise was such a glorious endurance run. More of that, please!

    • The animaation studio that’s done 2 of my favorites (Castlevania + Devil May Cry) has acquired the rights to Duke Nukem. Never played the game but it sounds kinda in-your-face, crass, and transgressive. You need a little of that sometimes.

    • The next Star Wars movie (Starfighter) is sparing no expense, including the cinematographer from Top Gun: Maverick. Sounds good but let’s hope it doesn’t suck. My Star Wars expectations are low.

  • Best Horror Movies of the Year? I’m 5 out of 10 so far. My favorite is probably Final Destination Bloodlines. That movie was a blast!

And Speaking of Transgressive

I got an email asking me to subscribe to (oh my!) Kickstarter After Dark. Oooh la la, sign me up! Heh, sound like fun. Here’s hoping Ruxy makes the list!

Some folks look down on the risque comic scene as a quick buck (and maybe they’re right). But… you know… oh well. I think it’s fun and I’m going to keep doing it. I’ll always keep it fun and sexy because I can’t stomach the gross stuff. Not my style.

And On That Note… No More Virgins!

Kurt, ya sick bastard! Wink, wink. I’m talking about those textless covers that are sitting around mocking me. I’ve been looking at my comic inventory and, when I was newer at this, I had an enthusiasm for textless/virgin covers. I have too many left. You might have noticed that I didn’t offer any on the last Ruxy Kickstarter (except as metal covers). That’s how it’s going to be from here on out. They don’t sell well, and kick up printing costs. I’ll probably have a textless cover sale on the next campaign to take down that back-issue textless inventory. Stay tuned!

BUBBLE GUM RAZOR - #1 - MURDER PODCAST- SUSPENSE - SLASHER

by Travis Gibb

Kenji Thompson is an investigative podcaster known for his hit true-crime podcast. What happens when he is the target of a slasher!

BUBBLE GUM RAZOR is a razor-sharp thriller where true crime turns deadly real.

Kenji Thompson built his reputation exposing monsters on his hit podcast, Malevolent Killers—but now the monster might be him. Three years ago, he obsessed over a chain of brutal murders across three major Florida cities, a case that froze in the shadows with no suspect caught. Now, as Kenji records the final season of his show, the nightmare reignites—new murders in the same cities, staged with chilling precision… and every clue points directly at him.

Hunted by the police, stalked by an unseen killer, and drowning in a conspiracy that’s been waiting years to spring shut, Kenji’s only hope is to solve the case before he becomes its final victim.

Told in a gripping dual narrative, each issue opens with a haunting murder episode straight from Kenji’s podcast, then slams into a breathless race against time as he fights to clear his name. But the deeper he digs, the more one truth becomes certain—someone knows Kenji better than he knows himself.
