Cagey Updates_7: Take a Walk
Some New Shows This Year
Hello! Hope You’re Keeping Cool
Can’t believe it’s July already. Kickstarter to fulfill, Spectress & Sabanion #6 edits to work on and Ruxy Vampire #3 to write, show this weekend. EGAH!!! Things to do and, once again, it feels like I’m fighting five snakes!

For whatever reason, I absolutely LOVE this image. It’s so hilariously goofy and yet captures the busy lifestyle we’re all dealing with. I guess it’s apropos to being busy w/ a lot of silliness that I take very seriously. If I had it all to do over again, Cagey Comics would be Fighting 5 Snakes Comics. Hmmmm… do I see a back tattoo possibility here? Sure, when I get TOTALLY RIPPED (i.e. never).
Let’s Take a Walk
I don’t invest too much in self-help stuff, but a lot of times things just come up in your feed and you tap on them. I see it online and I know it’s something that Stephen King encourages (well… I’m sure he looks over his shoulder on his walks a little more now). Sometimes, if you have to figure something out, take a walk.
Do it. That problem will unfold for you.
It’s not a guarantee, but I’m a believer. Bring your phone w/ you and make sure it has a voice recorder. I was having trouble introducing a scene w/ Cezara in the Ruxy Vampire #3 script. It’s Cezara so it had to be horrible, of course. Not just horrible, but showcase/demonstrate some of her abilities and powers. I wasn’t getting anywhere and I tried forcing it in the script, which never works. Then I took a walk and it just came to me. In fact, the rest of the comic came to me as well. The scenes, the action, the dialog… it’s there. It’s recorded in short, breathy audio snippets. Now, I just need to write it down.
As far as self-help goes, the only guy I really listen to is Arnie. I dig his Pump Club updates. I’m not a body builder but I like to exercise and I enjoy doses of positivity here and there. He calls it his “positive corner of the internet.” Great life hacks, well-researched advice, and recommendations. Arnold Schwarzenegger is not perfect by any stretch, but his book Be Useful is inspiring. He also inspired a great Bill Burr routine.
Convention Update:
I will see you at Capital City Con in Lansing, MI this weekend, Table 1901.
I’m trying 2 new shows this year as well. I’ll see you at MADEX Comic Con in August and WI Horror Fest in September.
What I’m Absorbing:
28 Years Later - Great movie, a must see. One of the few remakes/reboots/sequels I’m on board with. It gets away from the zombie trope of the-humans-are-the-real-monsters thing that’s gotten old. It’s a fantastic combination of horror, action, humanity, story, gore, suspense, and heart-wrenching emotion. The humans are flawed and the zombies are relentless. Check it out on the big screen while you can.
The Bloodsworn Trilogy - I’m currently listening to Book 2 (The Hunger of the Gods). If you’re looking for a fantasy viking read, this might be your thing. Magic, sheild walls, tainted characters descended from dead gods. An interesting story set in a godless world where humanity barely survived a Ragnarok-like cataclysm. My only complaint: the characters are a bit dry and hard to differentiate. Worth checking out though.
