Cagey Updates_4: More Diamond Drama! Valiant Saved? Comic Creator Burned
Oh and Ruxy is unstoppable
Hello Dear Reader and Moon Crew Veteran!
How is life treating you? Same here. I can’t complain too much because Ruxy Vampire #2 is doing well and things are moving forward. Not sure how tarriffs are going to impact printing costs (sent a note to my printer) but I guess we’ll see. As a creator, I prefer stability in general, as comics are a luxury (?) expense.
But let’s talk comics!
We’re busting through Milestone Bonuses and Stretch Goals.
Here are a few pages w/ Mog’s art and Bruna’s colors. Enjoy + click the pic!
Comics & Pop Culture News
They’re remaking my beloved Mummy again. I completely skipped the Tom Cruise remake. This one is from Blumhouse and it looks like they’re going to work the horror angle a little harder. I’m cool w/ that as long as it’s good. The director did Evil Dead Rise so hopes are high.
The company that bought Diamond Comic Distributors, Alliance Entertainment, is suing Diamond Comic Distributors. Apparently, Diamond is trying to nullify the deal and accept an earlier offer from a different bidder, Universal Distribution LLC. Strange. I’m not a lawyer so I don’t know how these things go down but it looks like Diamond is looking to accept a purchase deal offered before they declared bankruptcy. Not sure if they can do that.
Alliance Entertainment was looking more at the collectables market when they purchased Diamond. I hope this doesn’t mean that comics are going to get the short shrift. It’s a tough business model but fingers crossed they can find a new angle on the business and get comics in front of more people.
I didn’t know that Valiant Comcs needed saving, but IDW and Alien Books are partnering w/ Valiant. I dig Shadowman and Bloodshot so I hope they keep em coming. There was another great series too: The Life and Death of Toyo Harada. Really, really cool if you can find it.
What I’m reading:
Still enjoying I Heart Skullcrusher from Boom! Studios
Still digging The Hexiles by Cullen Bunn
Had a lot of fun w/ Jump Scare also by Cullen Bunn (yeah, I’m a definitley a CB fan)
A British comic creator, Becky Burke, was detained, imprisioned, and violated by US ICE authorities. She had a legitimate visa and was entering the country legally. I truly don’t know what purpose this serves.
